Hello there,

Looking for some advice if anyone has any!

I'm trying to to edit mpl files from my panasonic hdc hs300 digital camcorder using powerdirector 8 but the software isn't able to 'read' mpl files. My camcorder has made images onto mts files before (which is fine for pd but now seems to have decided to record as mpl files.

I wondered if anyone has had a similar problem and knows the best way to convert mpl files to files that can be read by pd8 without losing any quality in the image.

Hey, hope this doesn't sound too naive/stupid!

Cheers.

Have you tried converting the .mpl file to .wmv and then use this wmv's to your project instead.

Not sure on the quality will be the same. More likely it won't be the same quality. But try and experiment is the only advice I can give.

Take care. -Redell

Hi Lesley -

The Pana records in MPEG-4 H.264/AVC format (.MTS files, as you said).

.mpl
is a file extension used for AVCHD playlists, as far as I know. If that's the case, it would only contain references to the video.

According to the manual, the actual video files are in the BDMV folders on your camera's HDD or SD card.

They're the files you need to transfer to your PC.

Cheers - Tony

Hi Tony,

Sorry for the late reply!

I've managed to locate the mpl files as you say in the BDMV folder. The moral of the story is check the manual!

Many thanks.
