Hi Mr. Wobbles,
Unless we both missed something, there isn't a Page Curl Transition that goes from Right to Left, and you can't change the properties.
It makes sense that it simulates turning a page of a book from Right to Left...correct? Hmmm, maybe we might get lucky and it will appear in the next version. So for now, we just have to turn out pages backwards!!
I am glad the Fade to Black tutorial was helpful!! Thanks for your positive somments!
Kevin

After having a ton of issues with Pinnacle's Studio 12, I became fed up and decided to switch to something else. I read reviews and I decided to give PowerDirector a go.
Now that I am here, I'm actually a little flustered already. With Studio, you could insert a crossfade (which is what PD calls "fade" AND you could also do a Fade-Out or Fade-In to/from any color with a stock transition. This doesn't seem to be natively supported by PD? I've been able to duplicate this with PD's version of a fade with a black color board as the between clip. (Meaning: My Video/Photo -> Fade -> Black Color Board -> Fade -> Next Video/Photo) But this seems very impractical and it takes a lot of tweaking each time I want to do it.
Is there a better way, or is there a way I can make this a custom transition such that it becomes drag-and-drop? I read above about someone liking the fade to black tutorial, but I cannot seem to find the tutorial that the poster was referring to.
Thanks,
highflight1985

Hi there -
What you've come up with (described above) is the only way I know to do it in PD. It's pretty simple to drop in a colour board & fade. You can copy and paste it to other sections of the video.
To fade to and from black at start or end, just drop a fade in at the right spot.
Cheers - Tony

Hi Highflight,
Sorry about the missing Fade to Black tutorial being missing....my fault....I removed it because I wasn't really pleased with it and plan on making it available in a day or two in an updated version.
This might help in the meantime to help with the tweaking you were referring to.
Hopefully you have found the color boards....yes?
And you know where the fade and other transitions are....yes?
To help with some of the tweaking you can change your preferences in PowerDirector to specify how long of a duration you want STILLS, TRANSITIONS, EFFECTS, etc., etc. to be in ADVANCE.
To get to your PREFERENCES:
Step 1. Click on the Director's Chair in the upper left corner
Step 2. Select EDIT>PREFERENCES> then select the EDITING tab. You can change default values here that might speed up some of your TWEAKING because you can input the values that you were TWEAKING them to. So if you are shortening or lengthening all your fades to 1 second or 8 seconds....just change it in your preferences. Everytime you add another transition it will be at the length you specified. Make sense?
Current defaults:
Image Files (Including Color Boards) - 5 seconds Duration
Transitions - 2 seconds Duration
Effects - 10 seconds Duration
I hope this helps speed things up for you!
Kevin

I dont know if you are still doing these.....but I would be VERY grateful if you could do one that shows how to make part of a video color while leaving the background black and white. For example.....video of daughter running through living room....having the daughter in color while having the living room in black in white. thank you in advance

I have a question about how to find and apply the photo montage effects that you see when you use a magic movie to a "normal" production. I'm using the latest Ultra 8 version and when I laid a sequence of photos on the timeline and then clicked the Magic hat, selected "slow motion" style, it produced a slideshow that had some montages that were very good. However (unlike Pinnacle editing software), I can't find where these montage effects are coming from so I could just put them on my "normal" production. Any ideas?

Chays:
I'm sure Kevin has already pointed you in the direction of Adrian's three PDtoots tutorials at
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9LWc_x1fVQ8
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Rw6d64Vp5M
and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vsTHJ2NqphY
Thought I'd mention them anyway. An excellent (& advanced) technique... and excellent toots!
jrotc241175@aol.com:
The Montage effect built into the template is not an "effect" you can apply. What you can do is:
1. Select the group of images you want to "montage", in the timeline.
2. Click Slideshow... then Montage... then Next... then OK
Job done - you have a Montage slideshow in the middle of your project
Cheers - Tony

Capt K -
This forum is invaluable for users of all levels. Without it I might have given up on PD8, so you and others have my gratitude for being here for listening and being patient with us newcomers, and for your help. I agree with Janis F11 that Cyberlink's (not "yours") help and tutorials aren't appropriate for beginners. The Help files in the program itself are way too brief and they suffer badly from not having screen views, video, or sound. They look like they had been made by someone who was in a hurry, was not much interested in writing Help files, and was distracted by some other task. The tutorials linked in the "Tutorials" section of PD8 are probably great for very advanced users, but they're not at all helpful for beginners. The same is true for the multiple YouTube tutorials CyberLink links to - unless, perhaps, one is a native speaker of French or German.
IMO - The most important new tutorials, by far, would be a series of very clear, specific videos - with sound, in English, not moving along too blazingly fast - of how to do various things; how to import files and folders; how to capture from a camcorder or a DVD; how to insert things into the timeline and/or storyboard; how to insert a transition (and how to lengthen that transition - something I haven't figured out how to do yet); and so forth.
To me it seems that one all encompassing tutorial would not be the best way to go. That's what Pinnacle did, and the result is a tut which is so lightning fast that you have to view it several times before you can extract any info from it. Nevertheless, the Pinnacle tut is adequate for the beginner, if that beginner is willing to view it multiple times. It got me started in PInnacle quickly and with only a little bit of pain . So far, after receiving your tips and those from Robert, it seems to me that PD is a better program than Pinnacle. It just needs that little boost to get newcomers started.
You and others have already made quite a few tutorials on various things. I'm not ready for most of them, but things like "fade to black" and fading saturation will be very useful to me, pretty soon.
I'll look with interest for that new series of tutorials, for the beginner. (Another wink here, but I'm not much into ideograms - )
Bill Hansne

Hi Anirban
Here's what to do
Have your video in the main track.
Put your text in the correct place under the main track video and select a scrolling template for it.
Now go to the "All content" button in the on the "edit" page and select "colour boards". select a colour of your choice and drag it down to into a "PIP" track place it under your text and stretch it to the same size as your text. Now highlight the colour board and go to "modify" (open the PIP designer) on this screen deselect "maintain aspect ratio" and arrange the colour board where you would like it to be on the screen. You may the have to go to the "title designer" and move the text to a suitable place on the screen.
What you should end up with is your video on part of your screen with the colour board on the other part showing your text.
I hope it helps you, if you need more information come back
Robert
